Today is National Wear Red Day. People and landmarks “go red” to raise awareness of the leading cause of death for women; heart disease. According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the United States death rate in 2023 from heart disease is 162.1 per 100,000 people. In fact, more Americans in 2023 died from heart disease than from strokes, chronic lower respiratory diseases, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, kidney disease, and chronic liver disease combined.

If you can, wear red today not only to raise awareness but to also show your support. If you don’t know CPR, register for a class. Spread the word on social media. Provide financial or other support to organizations conducting vital research in both treatments and hopefully a cure.
